What do you get when you launch a unique and complementary teaming arrangement of proven leading-edge innovators in their respective fields? Introducing MAST (Maritime Advanced Simulation Team), which was organized to provide discerning maritime organizations with an extensive range of experience and demonstrated capability in the development and implementation of best-in-class simulation solutions. From vessel concept design through to operational optimization and risk mitigation, MAST will deliver fully-customized, robust, reliable, and effective simulation and training solutions.
Rockwell Collins -- one of five MAST members -- joined the team to leverage its proven existing simulation and training capabilities into the maritime sector. Other team members include:
- Knud E Hansen A/S -- a Denmark-based ship design company with a long history of technical innovation
- Saint James Marine -- a consulting services company with a presence in both the U.S. and Australia providing considerable maritime industry experience
- Global Simulation Inc. -- a system integration company based in Utah with extensive experience in maritime simulation
- Appri Custom Technology Inc. -- a customized engineering company also based in Utah providing integration, physics and hardware solutions
“Rockwell Collins will be applying its proven simulation and training solutions in defense and aviation into the maritime sector,” said Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager of Simulation & Training Solutions for Rockwell Collins. “Joining MAST expanded the market space for our products through the co-development of next-generation technical solutions.”
Key to MAST’s value proposition is the ability to bring higher fidelity simulation to the real-world training environment with increased safety and proficiency. This reduces the time and expense for training, while providing customers with a portfolio of simulation capabilities to address targeted market needs.
“In collaboration with other MAST members, we developed a maritime simulation demonstration based on our company’s Coalescence™ mixed reality system display technology to emphasize the unique and ground-breaking nature of the technical capability that Rockwell Collins and the team are able to provide,” Gibbs explained.
Coalescence is a recently-launched mixed reality training system with flexible application for air, land and sea domains. This latest enhanced vision environment solution fully immerses users into any virtual-reality training scenario.
“Through technology such as this, MAST will define a new and unique marketing and technological approach to the market that can expand with growth,” Gibbs said.
