Meeting an engineer can change your life. Just ask Martha Garcia-Wegener. When Martha was six years old, her family immigrated to the United States from Mexico. Eventually her family moved to Iowa, where they opened a restaurant. One day, while working as a waitress at the restaurant, she waited on a man who was an electrical engineer.

Rockwell Collins is currently seeking proposals for its 2013 Green Communities grant program. Launched nine years ago, the program helps fund environmental projects in communities where the company operates. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 15, 2013, with grant winners being announced in conjunction with activities on or around Earth Day, April 22, 2013.

More than 40 organizations around the world will benefit from $87,500 in Green Communities environmental grants awarded by Rockwell Collins this year. The Green Communities grant program, in its ninth year, funds projects that improve the environmental condition of communities where Rockwell Collins operates.
