OVERVIEW
The MND-640B Multinavigation Display is an all-digital Radio Magnetic
Indicator (RMI) that offers the additional capability of displaying other
navigational information for standby use. Designed for installation in the
all-digital jet or turboprop aircraft, it features low-power consumption,
small panel space requirements and the ability to clearly display a multitude
of navigational data.
DESCRIPTION
The MND-640B system consists of one or two SDU-640B Sensor Display Units
and an SDD-640A Sensor Display Driver. The SDU-640B is a fully integrated
display that contains a three-inch, high-resolution, monochromatic CRT assembly
and a symbol generator in one box. The SDD-640A is a remotely mounted data
concentrator that collects navigational sensor information, combines this
information onto a digital data bus and transmits it to the SDU-640B for display. The SDD-640A accepts navigational data from various navigational sources.
All inputs and outputs are via ARINC 429 data
buses. Functionally, the SDD-640A receives and processes two completely independent
channels of data, one from the aircraft's right side navigation sensors and
the other from the aircraft's left side navigational sensors. The SDD-640A also has the capability of concentrating radio sensor information
for use by the RTU-870( ) Radio Tuning Unit when it is installed in the aircraft.
OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
The SDU-640B takes the navigational data and generates a variety of
display formats. The formats and their descriptions are listed in the specifications.
The SDU-640B strokewrites the formats to give excellent sunlight readability. The operating controls of the system are straightforward with rotary
knobs allowing selection of: Navigation source for single bar bearing pointer Navigation source for double bar bearing pointer Selected heading and selected course when in HSI mode Display format of center area Brightness trim control The source of information supplied to the bearing pointer can be VHF
Omnidirectional Radio Range (VOR), automatic direction finder, Flight Management
System (FMS) and TACAN (TCN) with the source being annunciated next to the
controlling knob. Pointer Off is also selectable. Four types of data can be displayed in the center area of the compass
rose: Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), approach deviation, VOR/FMS/TCN
deviation and FMS/VLF Very Low Frequency present position. The format selection
knob permits the pilot to select data from VOR/ILS Instrument Landing System,
DME, FMS, VLF, microwave landing system and TCN sources. The type of format
selected is annunciated in the upper left corner of the display.
