Rockwell Collins launches Integrated Crew Display System to enhance situational awareness for the warfighter

LONDON (September 09, 2009) - Rockwell Collins today introduced the Integrated Crew Display System (ICDS) for military vehicles. The system provides enhanced situational awareness resulting in increased crew safety and mission effectiveness.

ICDS provides video feeds via a helmet mounted display (HMD) from multiple sensors and systems in the vehicle, which can be simultaneously viewed by all crew members.

"The Integrated Crew Display System gives soldiers a perspective of the field they've never had before. The key benefit is reliable information and enhanced situational awareness that will ensure the safe completion of their mission," said Bruce King, vice president and general manager of Surface Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "This particular system also leverages proven technology that Rockwell Collins originally created for the highly successful Mounted Warrior program."

The Vehicle Video Switch (VVS), a component of the system, accepts video sources from the electronic systems in virtually any type of military vehicle including the Abrams, Bradley, HMMWV, and Strykers, and provides the display to vehicle crew members.  Crew members can select from any of the video input sources, and view them on the PV35 HMD. Up to four viewers can simultaneously view the displays. The operator controller is attached to the crew member's vest, and is provided by the PV35 Display Control Module.

Rockwell Collins has provided advanced HMD solutions for three decades, gaining a reputation for expertise in the combined use of optic and electronic technologies.
