Rockwell Collins eXchange to provide enhanced live TV services through CBB
ORLANDO (November 08, 2005) - Rockwell Collins eXchangeTM will be the first to offer the business jet market live broadband television while flying over oceanic regions. The service,
provided by Connexion by Boeing, will be available the second quarter of 2006.
eXchange TV provides up to four channels around the globe of time-sensitive programming through agreements with premium providers
such as MSNBC, CNBC, BBC World, EuroNews and EuroSportNews.
"This is the first time the business jet passengers will be able to view television while traveling over the ocean, which
makes eXchange TV the most comprehensive service available for corporate customers," said Denny Helgeson, vice president and
general manager, Business and Regional Systems for Rockwell Collins. "With this enhanced TV offering, passengers can also
stay up-to-date with live breaking news, sports and financial information at the same time they are receiving email or accessing
the Internet."
"Business jet passengers now will be able to enjoy the same live television programming available today to Connexion by Boeing
users on commercial flights," said Ed Laase, director, Government and Executive Programs, Connexion by Boeing. "eXchange TV
is another way passengers can choose to stay connected with the world in flight with access to the latest news, sports and
financial information." The capability of the eXchange system is made possible through a strategic agreement with Connexion by BoeingSM, a business unit of the Boeing Company. The eXchange system combines the advanced antenna technology and signal processing
capabilities of Rockwell Collins' Tailwind® 500 multi-region Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) TV system with the high-speed
Internet, data, and entertainment connectivity service of Connexion by Boeing to enable real-time, nearly global two-way Ku-band
data coverage.
The eXchange system will integrate with the company's Airshow 21 cabin electronics system. Aircraft operators and passengers
can use the eXchange system to access the Internet, and fire-wall protected corporate Intranets; send outgoing e-mail or open
large attachments from incoming e-mail; get the news, weather or destination information; or view DBS television programming.
The eXchange system brings over 400 channels of content rich digital news, sports and entertainment programming straight to
the cabin in multiple regions around the world, while also providing the fastest data connectivity at speeds of up to 5 Mbps
to the aircraft and 256 Kbps from the aircraft.
Connexion by Boeing is, for the second year running, the recipient of the World Travel Award for World's Leading High-Speed
In-flight Internet Services Provider. Through a broadband connection to an equipped airplane, high-speed Internet, data and
entertainment connectivity is delivered directly to travelers in flight. The Connexion by Boeing service is available today
on flights offered by Lufthansa, SAS, Japan Airlines, ANA, Singapore Airlines, China Airlines, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines
and El Al Israel Airlines. In addition, Etihad Airways and Austrian Airlines have announced their intent to install the Connexion
