Carol Chamberlin receives Rockwell Collins Good Citizenship award
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (May 06, 2008) - Nothing gives Carol Chamberlin a bigger thrill than to see a disabled child get on a horse and experience the feeling of freedom
and independence.
Chamberlin's devotion to volunteering at Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship - an internationally recognized non-profit therapeutic
riding center - has earned her the Rockwell Collins 2008 Good Citizenship Award. The award is given annually to a Rockwell
Collins' employee who exemplifies the company's commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the communities where they
company operates.
A senior electronics technician at the company's facility in Richardson, Texas, Chamberlin spends much of her free time training
and mentoring new volunteers, caring for and adopting horses, and serving as the announcer at Equest Horse Shows. In addition,
she uses her vacation time to transport equipment and work with horses, riders and volunteers at the Texas State Special Olympic
Equestrian Games and at several other three to four day competitions throughout the year.
"I don't do this for recognition or any accolade. I do this because I truly believe in the benefits therapeutic riding has
to offer. No rider is ostracized, the mechanical mobility devices are left on the ground and the rider is free," says Chamberlin.
"The goal for every client is to take all the control they can. I've experienced the joy, laughter, and camaraderie of teamwork
as we all focus towards the same goal - to be as independent as possible."
Other finalists for the Good Citizenship Award include Gary Prior, senior mechanical technician, Cedar Rapids; Tara Sansenbach,
assembly operator, Coralville; and Karen Strasko, manager of Quality Training, Melbourne, Fla.
